Table Mountain

Cape town

It is impossible to visit Cape Town without climbing the Table Mountain. To do this, there are two options: the climb on foot (which starts at Kirstenbosch Garden) or the cable car ride at the foot of the mountain. It takes about three hours to climb the Table Mountain on foot. Light clothing and good shoes are essential. In your backpack, remember to take water and a warm (or windproof) garment just in case. After this effort, it can be cool at the summit. You don’t need to be an athlete, but you need to be in good physical condition. The slope is sometimes very steep.

The other option is to take the cable car. Buy your tickets online, this will save you a tedious queue at the ticket office.

It is strongly recommended to climb the “Table Mountain” early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The 11am-4pm slot is, I think, to be avoided.

Before considering this visit, make sure that the “Table Mountain” is not completely in the clouds. The interest of the visit is of course… the view of Cape Town. (The weather is very changeable on the mountain).

Important

Most of those who climb the “Table Mountain” on foot, go back down by cable car. However, the departure on foot is not at the same place as the mechanical climb. (Your vehicle will be parked at Kirstenbosch garden while you will arrive at the foot of the mountain with the cable car).

So, two solutions:

– You will go down as you went up.

– You will prefer an UBER (really cheap) to get there.

Kirstenbosch Garden

Cape Town

Situated on the slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is renowned as one of the largest botanical gardens in the world. A 528-hectare estate that contains over 7,000 species of southern African plants, few gardens can match the grandeur of Kirstenbosch’s setting.

Les concerts

Billets disponibles dans les Pick n Pay

Summer isn’t summer in Cape Town without the sunset concerts on the rolling lawns of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. Concerts are held on Sundays. Bring your family with you picnic basket, folding chair or towel and enjoy some of the best music South Africa has to offer in the shadow of Table Mountain.

Locals love these summer concerts and you’ll find people from all walks of life and ages here. Sometimes there are big international acts. On other days you’ll hear jazz, classical, rock, pop, folk…

Expect to pay between R170 and R450 per person depending on the concert.

The line-up is announced each November, so keep an eye on their website for the latest.

The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra performs every year, and if you’re here for Christmas, don’t miss the candlelight carols.

Boulders Beach is one of the best beaches in Simon’s Town for watching African penguins. Located in a bay called Boulders Bay, it is located in the suburbs of Cape Town, on the east coast of the peninsula.

Cape Point

Cape Point is characterized by its steep cliffs that plunge into the turbulent waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

One of the main attractions of Cape Point is its historic lighthouse, located approximately 249 meters above sea level. It offers panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding area.

Visitors can explore the many hiking trails that wind around Cape Point. There is also a funicular railway, known as the “Flying Dutchman”, that transports visitors from the parking lot to the top where the lighthouse is located.

Zeitz Mocaa

Museum of Contemporary Art – Cape Town

A former grain silo transformed into a cultural mecca. The largest museum of contemporary art on the African continent, it houses 80 galleries. The Zeitz collection includes works by Chris Ofili, Kudzanai Chiurai, Kehinde Wiley, Glenn Ligon, Marlene Dumas, Wangechi Mutu, etc.

The architects wanted to preserve and celebrate the industrial heritage of the original structure, while simultaneously carving out large open spaces in the 42 concrete cylinders.

Bo-Kaap

Cape Town’s Colourful Houses

Located on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city centre, Bo-Kaap is one of Cape Town’s most fascinating neighbourhoods. Known for its colourful 18th century houses, the mainly Muslim Bo-Kaap neighbourhood is home to the descendants of people from Malaysia, Indonesia and India who were deported to the colony from the 18th century onwards. The neighbourhood can be visited during the day, wandering its cobbled streets and steep streets.

Muizenberg Beach

Muizenberg – 45 mn from CT

There are many reasons why visitors make Muizenberg Beach a tourist stop.

This seaside town on False Bay is famous for its colourful Victorian beach houses.

It is also a surfing hotspot, albeit with the presence of great white sharks. Attacks are extremely rare and an alarm program warns when predators are present.
